PlanesDB is a free aviation database and a personal project. By using the site you are agreeing to what follows, which I have tried to keep in plain English rather than the usual wall of capital letters.
Every figure on here is put together from sourced material and each entry lists what it was built from, but I cannot promise that all of it is correct. Published sources contradict each other constantly, variants get mixed up, and a wrong number can be repeated for decades before anybody notices. The About page sets out how sourcing is done and where the limits are.
Please do not rely on anything here for operational, navigational, engineering, commercial or safety-critical purposes. It is a reference for people who are interested in aeroplanes, and it is not a substitute for a manufacturer's manual, an operator's documentation or a regulator's publication.
If you spot something wrong, please tell me - it is genuinely the most useful thing anyone can do for the site and I will always look at getting it corrected.
The entries themselves - the specifications, history, operators, incidents and everything else in the database - are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. In short, you are welcome to copy, adapt and build on them, including commercially, as long as you credit PlanesDB and release whatever you make from them under the same licence.
The reason for share-alike rather than something looser is simple enough - this is built by contributors giving their time, and it seemed right that anything built on their work stays as open as the original.
That licence does not cover the photographs. Every photograph on PlanesDB belongs to whoever took it and carries its own licence - some are Creative Commons of various flavours, some are public domain, some are Crown Copyright or official military releases. The credit under each photograph tells you which.
If you want to reuse an image, please check that particular photograph's licence and credit the photographer as it requires. I have no right to grant you permission for somebody else's photograph, and neither does the database licence above.
When you submit an entry or a correction, you are confirming that it is yours to give - that you wrote it, or that it comes from a source you are entitled to draw on - and you are licensing it under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 terms as the rest of the database. You keep the copyright in what you wrote; you are granting everyone else the right to use it.
Please do not paste in text copied from a manufacturer's brochure, an aviation magazine or anywhere else that is not yours to give away. Facts are free for anyone to state; somebody else's paragraphs are not.
Aircraft designations, manufacturer names, operator names, roundels and logos belong to their respective owners and appear here to identify and describe the aircraft. PlanesDB is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any manufacturer, airline or air force.
This is a personal project, so there is no uptime promise. The site may be unavailable, entries may change, and features may come and go.
PlanesDB is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, and I am not liable for any loss arising from relying on it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited - which includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud.
These terms may be updated as the site grows - accounts and a forum are both on the list, and either would need more said here. The date below tells you when this was last touched.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
